Hyundai Strengthens Entry-Level HB20 Offering in Brazil, Targets Ride-Hailing Drivers Hyundai Motor is strengthening the entry-level positioning of its Brazil-focused HB20 compact car. The company will retain the model as an accessible gateway to the brand alongside the newer i20, while expanding its sales efforts to ride-hailing drivers. In an official announcement on October 15, Hyundai Motor Brasil said its HB20 strategy for 2027 would focus on naturally aspirated versions. A new variant with enhanced technology and comfort features is planned for the coming months. The HB20 Comfort has also joined a sales programme for small business owners who use their own vehicles for app-based passenger transport. Hyundai expects this customer segment to contribute to HB20 sales in 2027. HB20 Takes the Entry Role as i20 Occupies the Middle Ground In Hyundai’s Brazilian line-up, the HB20 serves as the entry-level model, while the i20 occupies the space between conventional compact hatchbacks and SUVs. The Creta addresses SUV demand. The approach clarifies the role of an established model alongside a newer product. Brazilian automotive publication Guru dos Carros interpreted the announcement as a strategy to preserve the HB20’s affordability while differentiating its position from the i20. Naturally Aspirated Versions Take Priority; No Blanket Turbo Discontinuation Announced Hyundai said locally produced naturally aspirated versions would be central to its HB20 strategy for 2027. According to the company, these versions have historically accounted for most Brazilian HB20 sales. However, prioritising naturally aspirated models does not establish that all turbo versions are being discontinued. Guru dos Carros noted that the announcement did not explicitly declare the end of those variants. The exact launch month, name and final equipment list for the new version remain undisclosed. The confirmed development is a planned revision of the model range in the coming months. Ride-Hailing Sales Expand, but Purchase Terms Remain Undisclosed The sales programme featuring the HB20 Comfort also includes selected i20 and Creta versions, offering several vehicle choices to customers who drive for a living. Hyundai described the purchase terms as competitive but did not disclose specific discounts or financing conditions in the announcement. The HB20, i20 and Creta share production lines at Hyundai’s Piracicaba plant in São Paulo state. The strategy combines an established manufacturing base with distinct product positions aimed at different customer needs. oming mont
