First off, let look at Or Bareket Or describes himself as being born in Jerusalem to parents of Moroccan, Iraqi, Argentinian, and Eastern European descent, raised between Buenos-Aires and Tel-Aviv, who has been based out of Brooklyn since 2011. Or literally started playing the electric bass at age 16 after hearing Jaco Pastorius for the first time. His father bought him a Pastorius album and, after listening to it, he decided right then to drop out of high school and devote himself to playing the bass. Fortunately, his father gave his complete support to Or's desire to pursue music and even to avoid mandatory military service in Israel, which he considers to be an apartheid colony. He took up the upright bass at eighteen and began classical training with Teddy Kling (principal bass at the Israeli philharmonic) and later with Professor Michael Klinghoffer (former assistant to maestro Gary Karr), all the while working extensively in the Israel jazz scene and studying jazz with bassist Avishai Cohen among others. Or is a composer and bandleader who offers a different and interesting voice in Jazz whom I listen to for inspiration and depth of thought in terms of what it takes to make music. 바다신2 Or is also the winner of the 2011 International Society of Bassists' jazz competition and is in demand, as bassist. He is also a multiple-time recipient of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation scholarship for outstanding performers and the Eubie Blake Fellowship. Some of the events he has participated in are Betty Carter’s “Jazz Ahead” at the Kennedy center, The Steans Institute Ravinia Workshop, and the Banff Workshop for Jazz and Creative Music in Canada. Or considers "Musical Practice" and composition a personal method of investigating spaces between and within languages, discovering, reclaiming, and weaving the different worlds lost through immigration and the worlds he currently inhabits into a personal aesthetic that attempts to include and honor all of them: his ancestral North African, Iraqi, and Latin-American folklores, his life-long study of Black American music. He is also fortunate enough to have worked with other musicians such as Joshua Redman, Chris Potter, Ben Wendel, Leon Parker, José James, Godwin Louis, Marquis Hill, Aaron Parks, Hamilton de Holanda, James Francies, Sam Yahel, Marta Sanchez, Aaron Goldberg, Savannah Harris, Chico Pinheiro, Fred Nardin, and Sullivan Fortner, which is one way of saying he has been busy since dropping out. Or describes the creative process as being a messy process that is difficult to talk about or document – perhaps a bit like the Saxe comment about laws and sausages: “Laws, like sausages, cease to inspire respect in proportion as we know how they are made.” Likewise, Or writes about the creative process as being a messy affair that defies an accurate appraisal: "Memory is a fickle thing: whenever we recount a dream, a life event, or even a core memory, we are on some level adapting or “editing” that story to be legible to listeners, and inevitably leaving stuff out. 바다이야기시즌7 I find the same to be true when discussing one’s creative process : so much educational “content” about composition feels like a performance or reenactment of a process rather than an honest documentation of it." You can hear some of Or's successful editing of that creative process in his 2024 recording Yom. Another bassist who is very talented is Linda May Han Oh. Born in Malaysia and raised in Boorloo (Perth), Western Australia, Oh has won many prestigious awards: she is a Guggenheim fellow and won the 2024 Herb Alpert Award and a 2022 Deutscher Jazzpreis. She was voted “Bassist of the Year” eight times between 2018~2026 by the Jazz Journalists Association and, in 2024, she received an Honorary Doctorate from the Manhattan School of Music and was the 2026 Artist in Residence at the Zuckerman Institute. Oh has scored for film and currently is an Associate Professor at the Berklee College of Music in the bass department. Oh has recorded eight albums to date and her most recent one, created with Melissa Aldana, called Beneath Lifted Skies features a remarkable duo effort between the two, Tenor Saxophone and bass. Finally, there is another pianist I've recently discovered who is really interesting in her way of working and hearing as an improviser – Yvonne Rogers. Rogers is from Maine, and now based in Brooklyn, New York. She works as both a pianist-for-hire and bandleader in New York and beyond. 모바일파칭코게임 She has appeared at venues and festivals including the Jazz Gallery, Roulette Intermedium, the Blue Note, Mezzrow, Smalls, Bar Bayeux, the Kennedy Center, NYC Winter Jazz Fest, Jamboree (ES), Porgy and Bess (AT), Birdseye (CH), the DC Jazz Festival, the Deer Isle Jazz Festival, and the Rochester International Jazz Festival. She has worked with artists such as Ralph Alessi, Linda May Han Oh, Ingrid Laubrock, and Harish Raghavan. Rogers is a 2024 Next Jazz Legacy Awardee — a grant which recognizes outstanding women in jazz, founded by Terri Lyne Carrington. Rogers won the 2025 Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Residency, the 2024 Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composers Award from ASCAP, Dee Dee Bridgewater’s Woodshed Network Residency. Rogers is a 2021 graduate of the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester and holds two degrees: a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Piano Performance from the studio of Gary Versace and a Bachelor of Arts in African and African American Studies. While growing up on the rural Maine coast, Yvonne began writing music that followed the meditative patterns and systems that can be found in nature — all before having any conventional understanding of conventional theory or harmony. This sort of hearing makes her music and approach to writing unique, for example, a recently commissioned piece Rogers wrote called Odes is a result of Rogers meeting individually with her musical collaborators, taking ideas and musical samples from them, combining and expanding upon those ideas and sounds to write a suite of pieces. As a composer, this is a very personal and unique way of working. One can hear ideas that range from something modern and classical to something almost North African.
